BeMOST aims to identify effective and sustainable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) tools by understanding and exploiting beneficial interactions between plants and soil-borne beneficial microbes that enhance the resistance of crops against major agricultural arthropod pests.
Specifically, BeMOST follows a multidisciplinary approach to reach the following objectives:
(1) Identify promising beneficial microbes that induce tomato resistance to aboveground arthropod pests;
(2) Understand the molecular and chemical mechanisms underlying three-way interactions between plants, microbes and arthropods by employing state-of-the-art -omics technologies;
(3) Evaluate the efficiency of promising microbes as biocontrol agents and propose novel tools for the biological control of arthropod pests.
